This program is open to all income eligible, disabled and TANF qualified Butler County residents who are homeowners or renters (with landlord approval), require modifications and/or accommodations for persons with disabilities to live independently.
Examples of eligible work items are:

1st floor accessible bathrooms, ramps, wider doorways, accessible kitchen/bathroom cabinets, grab bars.
Funding is limited, and not all eligible residents are guaranteed assistance.

ASSESSMENT

Once contacted, the Authority's program coordinator will assist you in preparing the following:

1. An eligibility screening including total household income.  Provide a copy of your deed, or landlord information and a copy of your Federal Income Tax Return.
 
2. A home inspection to determine modifications and/or accomodations.

3. A work write-up to assist contractors in preparing bids as well as an in house cost estimate of work to be performed.

4. Bids would be solicited and awarded from a list of approved contractors.

5. A contract which provides for a grant of up to $5,000 to bring your home in compliance with Housing Quality Standards and Local Code Requirements.

COST FINANCE

If the cost of the improvements exceeds the grant amount of $5,000 for accessibility, the homeowner/renter is responsible for the excess. Housing Quality Code Standards must be met.

Funds must be secured prior to contract signing.
The homeowner/renter is responsible for obtaining financing for any excess amounts above $5,000.  Possible financing is available through our partnership with NexTier Bank.
Bids must be received from several contractors. The contractor will be selected on the basis of insurability, price and other similar factors.

BENEFITS

The benefits of the PA Access Grant Program are numerous:

· The Grant does not have to be paid back, it is not claimed on your income tax and no lien is placed on your home or the landlords units.
· The owner/renter will experience self-sufficiency, independence and security in knowing their home is accessible.
· Your home's value may be increased.
· Existing affordable and accessible housing is preserved. 
 
INCOME LIMITS

Eligibility of the PA Access Grant Program of Butler County depends upon the homeowner or renters total household income being lower than the following income scale*:

1 person =     $23,994
2 persons =   $32,172
3 persons =   $40,350
4 persons =   $48,528
5 persons =   $56,706
6 persons =   $64,884
7 persons =   $73,062
8+ persons = $81,240
